Chaos erupted in New York City’s Union Square on Friday after a mob of people gathered for a giveaway put on by a popular YouTuber.
Giveaway Drew Quite A Crowd
The crowd was seen resorting to violence, tearing down construction barricades and throwing objects at responding police officers.
According to CBS News, one person was seen setting off a fire extinguisher.
Authorities estimate that around 2,000 people gathered for YouTuber Kai Cenat’s giveaway, who has 4 million subscribers on the platform on his main channel and another 3.6 million on his live streaming channel.
He was reportedly giving away several PlayStation consoles.
A flyer for the event, posted to Kai Cenat’s Instagram story, showed that another popular YouTuber with 1.2 million subscribers, Fanum, would also be in attendance.
People were seen climbing on top of vehicles, including that of the Youtuber, and fighting in the streets.
