Children Found Alive in Jungle After Crash

Four children from an Indigenous community in Colombia were discovered alive in the southern region of the country.

The military, firefighters, and civil aviation authority officials successfully rescued the children amidst the dense jungle of Caqueta province in Colombia.

The Cessna 206 aircraft, carrying a total of seven individuals, had been en route from Araracuara in Amazonas province to San Jose del Guaviare in Guaviare province when it issued a distress call due to engine failure during the early hours of May 1.

In a Twitter statement, Petro expressed, “After a painstaking search conducted by our military, we have miraculously located the four children alive who had gone missing subsequent to the plane crash in Guaviare.

It is a moment of jubilation for the entire nation.”

Three adults, including the pilot, perished as a result of the accident, with their bodies discovered inside the wreckage.

Despite the impact, the four surviving children, aged 13, 9, 4, and an 11-month-old baby, managed to flee the aircraft and embarked on a journey through the rainforest in search of assistance.

Initial reports from the civil aviation authority, responsible for coordinating the rescue efforts, indicate that the children sustained themselves by consuming discarded fruit and erecting makeshift shelters using local vegetation.

The rescue operations witnessed the involvement of aircraft and helicopters from both the Colombian army and air force.
