YouTuber Crashed Plane for Views in National Forest For Sponsorship Deal

Trevor Jacob, a popular YouTuber, has admitted that he intentionally crashed his single-engine airplane in a California national forest to increase views for a sponsorship deal, according to authorities.

Jacob made the confession in a plea agreement filed in federal court in Los Angeles. He pleaded guilty to one count of destruction and concealment with the intent to obstruct a federal investigation.

acob posted the video “I Crashed My Airplane” on YouTube on December 23, 2021. As of Thursday, the video had over 2.9 million views.

The video shows Jacob taking off from Lompoc City Airport in a Taylorcraft BL-65 and jumping from the plane before it crashed into the mountains.

According to the agreement, Jacob had planned to use the video to promote a sponsorship deal with a wallet company.

After the crash, Jacob lied to investigators about the wreckage’s location and cut up and discarded the aircraft at the airplane hangar he used in Lompoc.

The charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.
