“HERS” Lesbian Dating App is Making Lesbians Mad

HER, the largest lesbian dating app with 1.5 million users in 55 countries, has faced criticism for its inclusion of trans-identified individuals, particularly men, leading to hostility towards lesbian users.

Originally designed as a female-run lesbian space, HER underwent a rebrand in 2018 to profit from trends of “queerness” and “inclusivity,” which attracted trans-identified individuals.

However, this led to a flood of men who identified as lesbian, and lesbians and bisexual women were not provided an option to filter them out.

Some female users added disclaimers to their bios or photos to signify their exclusive same-sex attraction, but were still forced off the app.

Jen, a lesbian user, was suspended from the app after adding “no trans women” to her bio on HER.

She received a snarky response from customer service asserting “trans women are women.”

HER’s move towards inclusivity has caused harm to the lesbian community and sparked debate over the contagion of gender identity ideology.
