A former sheriff’s deputy in Augusta, Ga. pleaded guilty to murdering his 37-year-old girlfriend in a parking lot elevator.
Jason “Moose” Cunningham received a life sentence in prison with the possibility of parole after 30 years for the crime.
He was sentenced to five years for possessing a gun during the felony.
The victim, Nicole Harrington, was unaware of Cunningham’s marital status while being in a relationship with him.
The fatal shooting occurred after an argument sparked when Harrington spent time with another man named Maui and allegedly made a derogatory comment about Cunningham’s manhood.
Harrington’s body was discovered the next morning at the Convention Center Parking Deck in Augusta.
The district attorney, Jared Williams, said Cunningham led a double life due to his affair with Harrington, and the motive for the murder was Harrington’s insult.
Cunningham had previously worked as a deputy for the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office from September 2001 to February 2018, according to the Augusta Chronicle.
