Two Iowa officers are being credited for their life-saving actions after preventing a man from jumping off a bridge.

Officers Destiny McGinnis and Tim Morgan of the Des Moines Police were conducting routine patrol when they noticed an SUV with flashing lights pulled over near the bridge.

Outside the vehicle, they saw two individuals, initially assuming they were engaged in an argument.

Their concern escalated when one of the men climbed over the bridge’s railing while the other grasped his leg desperately and that’s when the officers intervened to rescue the man and pull him back to safety.

During the rescue, one of the man’s shoes accidentally fell into the nearby river, but the officers maintained control over the man until medical assistance arrived.

The man confided in the officers, revealing his grief over the loss of his mother a year ago, which had prompted his desire to end his life.

Expressing her emotional response, Officer McGinnis shared that the encounter evoked a deep sense of compassion and the realization that the man lacked adequate support and resources.

Providing timely assistance by connecting him with medical professionals and available resources was deeply gratifying to the officers.
